How Aero Design Delivered a Fully Rebuilt Youngzine.org That Supports Learning, Storytelling, and Student Participation

overview

At Aero Design, we partner with mission-driven organizations to create digital platforms that inspire, educate, and engage. When Youngzine, a nonprofit focused on climate education and youth journalism, approached us, they needed more than just a website refresh—they needed a platform that could scale with their mission and empower young people to become informed global citizens. The result is a vibrant, modern site built on Drupal 10 that not only elevates their brand, but streamlines editorial workflows and expands classroom engagement.

challenge

Youngzine’s team had outgrown their old website. Built more than a decade ago on Drupal 7, it was difficult to manage, lacked mobile responsiveness, and didn’t reflect the dynamic learning environment they had cultivated. They needed a partner who could modernize their platform without losing sight of their grassroots identity—and who understood how to balance content complexity with simplicity in the user experience. Like many organizations we work with, they needed a future-ready site that could be easily managed by non-technical staff while providing a seamless experience for students, teachers, and parents.

our approach

We began with an in-depth discovery process, listening closely to Youngzine’s goals, challenges, and audience needs. Our design team created a bright, student-friendly interface with accessibility and clarity at its core. On the backend, we implemented a powerful content management system with custom editorial workflows, flexible content types, and fine-grained user permissions—perfect for organizations with layered content strategies. Built on Drupal 10, the new site is optimized for mobile, scalable for future programs, and secure by design. From kickoff to launch, we maintained close collaboration with the Youngzine team, ensuring their vision drove every decision.

results

Since launch, Youngzine’s team has been able to manage content independently and efficiently—saving hours of administrative time each week. Student submissions and educator engagement have grown, thanks to clear content architecture and better visibility for classroom programs. Most importantly, the new platform helps Youngzine live up to its mission: fostering environmental awareness and global citizenship through youth voices. For organizations seeking a partner to help translate mission into digital experience, this project is a clear example of how Aero Design delivers lasting impact through thoughtful design and smart technology.
